Ford 641 and Fordson Super Major paint colors?

I have a Ford 641 and also Fordson super major the grey and blue early for 5000 model.
My question is this I have two different gray paints a
gloss dark Ford gray M47574 (9n / 2n ) Old 55 brand
gloss Ford gray M45771 ( Pre-65 ) Old 55 brand.
I used some dark grey to paint my rear hubs on the 641 because I had my tires off.
Now I want to paint front rims and fenders on the 641. And
I didn t even realize I had 2 different colors. I was also going to paint rims fenders and hood of the Fordson. ???

Are either of these even the correct shade of grey for either?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

The dark gray would be correct for 9N and 2N
Medium Gray for 8N and X00.
The XX1s take a shade that has a slight tan tint to it. They are often incorrectly painted the medium gray shade.

Ok, thanks much. That makes sense.
So anyone have the correct color grey for the 641?
And what about the Fordson Super Major color?
Anyone have a detail on the grey? This tractor has Ford 5000 decals on the hood.
Maybe I ll try to include a pic of it.

So, here are 3 options. The center one?
Would you say that is the correct grey for a Ford 641?

Thanks

While the light gray may not look too bad on an N, if I were putting any time and effort working on a tractor I would want the correct color. I would not consider for a second using something just because I had it on hand. I would paint a 641 JD green before using that middle one. What gives you the idea that any of those
are tractor paint? I'll bet that they are all truck paints. Here is my 901 that I painted eight years ago.

What is the condition of the paint on the underside of the hood center panel?

These are Tractor color mixes from Fleet Farm. I'm not saying they are right wrong, good, or bad. They run around $25 a gallon. But, the question is - 1- color ? , 2- Quality ?

I'll check under the hood. Good idea.

I view my tractors as tools. Not for show. But, at the same time, if I take the time to paint, I want it to look like it should.

Just explaining myself, others have their own view. That's fine.

Do you have paint colors from when you painted yours? I may just go to auto supply store and get a gallon of what is right.

Thanks for your help. Hard to make decisions without the truth about details. What is the right color?...

I guess its a loaded question...?

The 641 is beautiful.
I sold Ford Tractor parts for over 13 years (prior to 1979) and as my memory serves me, the Ford Tractor P/N for the red paint is M1J-956 and the grey is M1J-957. There was a suffex i.e.-SE1 or SE2 which was for a quart or gallon size.(I think)
This is the correct paint/color for all the US built Fords starting with the red belly 8N up until 1964.
New Holland sells the red in lacquer. Not sure on the grey.
Hope this helps

Ron, the Ns and X00s are vermilion, while the XX1s are orange red.

Can you elaborate on that?

Those are the terms that Ford has used for the two shades of red. 8Ns NAAs 600,700 800,900,700 were all vermilion, kind of a dark red. When the 601,801,901,741, came out in '58 they brightened the red to orange red.

Thanks, makes sense to me now.
I have my 2 Fords, 641 and Super Major, + a neighbor wants his 861 painted. So, I have 3 Fords that I may be spraying.
Thanks
Any other tips or advice on colors would br much appreciated.
Thanks
Ty
