Decal installation

Is it a good idea to put soapy water on a surface before installing peal and stick decals?

An old milkman said that when he used to buy new trucks, the place that made and installed them would put soapy water on the door before putting them on. I guess it's supposed to make it do you can move them slightly and get the air bubbles out. I have some decals to install that go the full length of the tractor hood and thought I'd try it,but I don't want to waste a good decal.

Are you installing Mylar or Vinyl? Mylar uses soapy water to put them on and Vinyl doesn't use soap water.

These are vinyl that I bought from Steiner's tractor parts .

Is there an easy way to tell? Nelson LeCount sent theses to me. I guess Oliverjim had them made and didn't use them.

Foaming glass cleaner works good too. Mr. GoodWrench, repair shop manager at the trucking company I drove for installed the company logo decals that way.
