DB885 body parts exploded view

My 885 is missing the bottom sheetmetal pan for the front nose or lower radiator panel, whatever it is called. I'm trying to figure out what the attachments for the front lower hood look like. Battery hold down as well.

Pictures would be great or a link to an exploded line drawing pdf. Heck, if I could just find a complete, original tractor to look at. I'm in central NC.

Okay, Messick's had a generic line drawing listing the "bonnet" assembly but you can't tell how things go together. No breakdown of the hood, side panels and lower panel. There is a spring and hook assy shown that may hold the hood down or be for a different model tractor. Also a wing nut/stud/rubber washer that goes on the frame, right in the middle in front of the battery. May be for the lower body panel I am missing.

My side panels were just sitting on the frame on either side of the radiator. The frame in front of the battery is very rusty with two once threaded holes with their backside chipped/broken. It's as though the tractor was used to push something and buggered the lower body panel as well as its attachments.

Found an old post describing the 885's hood removal. There is mention of studs (plural) on either side that hold the hood on. Those did not appear in the Messick's drawing.

ScottNC, I will try to take some pictures tomorrow that will help. I will get them posted ASAP. I know how it is when your not quite sure what it is supposed to look like. This website has sure been a lot of help to me, I for one, appreciate all the folks that are so helpful. Dmat58

that'd be great dmat58. I won't have access to a computer until the 6th so no hurry.

I hope to get the tractor running while off for the 4th but without sheet metal. Have a short list of stuff to source, like fasteners for the dash and edge molding for the back of the hood.

Scott, I hope that these pictures help.

Yes, it helps a bunch dmat! Thank you for the effort.

I found that the previous owner had included the spring latches in pail of bits and pieces for the tractor. I'm missing the rubber cushions and need to inspect the front side panels to see if the 90 degree tabs the cushions attach to are still there. If they are they must be bent flat. On one side, in the threaded hole right under the carriage bolt you show there was a hex headed spud of some sort. Does it play a part in holding on the front sheet metal? I'll need to make another if it does.

I now understand how the that front lower panel mounts, need to find one now. I see your subject tractor also has the two, once threaded frame holes either side of the lower panel mount broken out like mine. Any idea what their original purpose was?

Upon a second review of your pictures I can see I am missing a couple things without looking at the tractor. The 90 degree brackets are definitely gone. I can make up the rubber cushion/carriage bolt easy enough but will need to fabricate the brackets. You have the hex-headed stud too. Actually you have one on each side but I still don't see what they do. And, your lower panel is welded to the lowers, I'm guessing that isn't factory.

Scott, The hex headed stud on the inside frame is for the battery hold-down. See drawing detail for battery. On the drawing of the frame bowl you can see bolt holes minus stud for battery hold-down. The lower bolt holes are for the bumper/weight rack to fasten 2 at front one at rear. See drawing and picture of my bumper attached to tractor. The bottom of my hood was in bad shape, it was ripped and I had someone weld on it for me. As you can tell from the picture it was really dirty. I had just about forgot how nasty looking it was when I got it. I hope these pictures help. Dmat

That's the first time I've seen the battery drawing, helps a bunch, thanks.

This David Brown is the polar opposite to my 2N. With the Ford, everybody has one, info is just a walk next door to look at the neighbors. If it wasn't for the internet and guys like you I'd never get this thing back to some semblance of what it was. Thanks!
