Dupont Dulux paints

I had read an older post that someone preferred Dupont Dulux paints. I have unopened gallons of black, blue, gray, and a qt of yellow that have been in storage in a cool dry basement for 30 years. Is this product still a preferred paint? Is this product still good? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's probably still good, and as for preferred paint the old Dulux can be hard to find thinner for. Do you plan on using it, or selling it (some people will buy it just for the can if the can is in good shape).

I have 6 gal of the T-3810 thinner and 1 gal of NAPA Kleanz easy 6383. Have a total of 17 gals of Dulux.
2 gal spray Black #183-005
5 gal Blue #183-66654-H
4 gal Gray #183-34822
6 gal Light Gray primer #65-3055
1 qt Yellow #183-96818
I do not plan on using it but I would sell it.

I learned to paint back in early 1960, Dulux is what we had then, preferred?? We shot a lot of it up until DuPont came out with Centari acrylic enamel. They came out with a hardener for the Dulux, ( Dulux Plus 77S) and we used a lot it and used the hardener in JD and IH paints as well. We used the 3812 reducer in the Dulux with or with out the hardener. I have used the John Deere TY25650 thinner with the hardened Dulux. The last case of 12 one pint cans of hardener I bought was over $260 and not sure if it can still be had as I got out of bodyshop in 2003. The hardener made the Dulux have more gloss and held up a lot better. Being a synthetic enamel I dought if you will find a great market for it. good luck

The paint is probably good for some things. I wouldn't paint your car or something important with it though. At that age I wouldn't expect the paint to last as long as if it were fresh paint.

jim, did you "hot pot" dulux when you shot it?? we used a hot plate with a pan of water. heat to 120 degrees with the cup in the pan, and when you hit the temp, shoot it. made the paint flash quicker without running it. ahhh...old school!!!

We did heat it at times. The dulux got mainly used for allovers, didn't need to speed up flash time. On panel repairs we used lacquer mainly Duco GM, R&M Caddys,LimcoFords,
Chrysler was a toss up between Martin Senior and the Limco. We had mixing setup for the Dulux and Martin Senior, When Centari came out we could mix also. WE also used to panel or small items in Centari thinned with lacquer 3661. WE hosted a few painting demos sponsored by DuPont, and Martin Senior. We were having a dirt problem when Centari first came out, uncoated masking paper back then, when I told Dupont I cured the problem they wanted to come watch! The paint even with 8022 would tumble weed going across and down windshield and back glass and had little paint ball dirt everywhere. that uncoated paper was just like a blotter drawing the solvents out. SO before I shot on car would paint paper first to tack up and stop the blotter effect.

After thirty years its probably not good...just take it to a disposal center and buy some new better paint

Thanks, I didn't want to just dispose of it if it was still preferred by anyone.
