Painting questions

Hi,
I am painting the hood panels on a 7040 allis, They were very rough and I had to do some patch panels and welding. I completely stripped it down to bare metal and removed all rust. Used agco primer and put 2 coats of Agco Allis chalmers orange.. but my paint gun had issues and I needed one more coat to get complete coverage.
I want to get a hvlp and put one more coat but need to wait 36 hours now since I missed the 30 minute window.. Will I have to scuff up the paint again to get good adhesion?

I know the agco paint is just alkyd enamel and will fade quickly,, will waxing help? I am fairly new to painting anything that needs a nice finish so wanted easy to use paint to learn with.
Also, just wondering what paint would be better if I wanted a longer lasting finish? And Will I be able to buy it here in ontario? or would I need to be a licensed auto body shop?

Thanks

The application guide should tell you if you have to sand. Probably rough it up with a scotch pad. I only use auto paint like PPG . Don't know other paints.

Normally a recoat window is based on painting in warm dry weather. If it cool and or damp you better double the amount of drying time. I don't use agco paint so I don't understand why it has a recoat window at all. It must be mixed with acetone or toluene. It's the solvents that create the recoat window.

With an enamel you should always scuff sand the paint before recoating. It depends on a mechanical bond to make adhesion.

I don't know what paint is available in Ontario or whether you would need a license. I'm in Texas and anyone can buy what ever automotive paint that is on the market to the professionals. Generally a solvent based automotive paint will be the most durable.

I like PPG products as well. I've learned the base/clear is a much more durable paint and will hold the shine much longer with little or no maintenance. I would scuff the shine off before applying more coats.
