How long will paint keep in captivity ? Had this for 14 years the one can has never been opened

On old paint if it's oil based paint the hardening oils will come to the surface and harden. If you take a knife you can cut the layer off the top which has hardened and stir what is left. If it's seems liquid instead of curdled it can be made usable. You would have to add linseed oil to the paint to replace what had dried up and pour it through a cone strainer. Still if the project is very important I wouldn't use it. It's not worth risking using old paint. It could seem to work fine but not last near as long as fresh paint would.
 
That looks to be in good condition however I still wouldn't use if for an important project. What did the can that had been opened look like?
