As long as were on paint, why does the red paint fade faster than other colors, i bought some brand X, and painted my old F-10 Farmhand loader, the main tubes Red, and the braces and tank green! It's still on there but that red look's chalky !!

the value line tractor paint do not generally have u/v protection like the high performance automotive colors. that is why tractor paint can sell for 80 dollars a gallon vs up to 300 plus a gallon for automotive lines.

That would be better answered by a scientist. What you perceive as color is the way a substance reflects light. The substance that reflects the red spectrum of color changes from exposure to ultraviolet light. When you get down to it paint is just dust particles suspended in a clear coating.

Like alluded to in below posts...red pigment is the most expensive..even "cheap" red pigment is expensive. If you want red that doesn't fade you will have to by premium automotive quality and preferably a base/clear type which will have even more UV protection. Auto,s with base clear don't fade When's the last time you saw a "pink" automobile/truck that STILL had it's FACTORY finish ?? I've painted parts of 15 yr old vehicles that were red /red met / pearl and they match. That JD alkyd enamel green will eventually fade also unless kept inside. It's still "antique chemistry " paint.

Red paint used to be made from ground up Chinese beetles. Once lead was removed from enamals the reds and yellows got weaker with the new pigments and lead substitutes.
