Anybody ever repair tips for fixing pin holes in a rear tractor 🚜 rim ? Good ol calcium chloride has ate holes in my dual wheel rims

You know those nickel size discs that cover the holes in electrical boxes. I save those for such a repair. If you weld right at the pin hole it will just burn a lot bigger. For a wheel they can be easily bent to the contour of the wheel.

Thats a great idea I'm thinking of welding some thin strap in place grinding it down and then maybe some jb weld to make it perfectly smooth

I have repaired a couple. You need to cut back to good solid material, then cut a piece of good steel to butt weld in. If it is on a curved part where most valve stems are located, shaping the steel can be a challenge. BUT, I have found a solution. Most hardware stores have a stock of steel in various rods and bars. Some will have bar stock which has a curved cross section. They are approx. 3/4 inch wide, and are a curve very close to that of the rim. I bent a piece of this to the arc of the rim and then welded a strip of flat bar beside it. then welded the resulting piece into the hole. If it is not too bad a washer can just be welded over the hole, but if it has extended you will find that the thin metal may be something like an inch and a half wide by four inches long.

I've got a little Kubota tractor which had valve stems on the inside side of the wheels. I found this very irritating trying to find the valve stem or move the tractor back and forth where you could get to them. When it came time for new tires I welded plugs over the holes and drilled new holes on the outside side of the rims.

I usually just turn the wheel around and swap sides in order to do this. I can usually do it without changing the track more than 3/4 of an inch.

Pin holes are like ice burgs there is a lot more rust underneath. if you have 1 or 2 a scab path is ok, but if ya got a bunch your kicking the can down the road.

Got one little section that has a a couple holes . I?ve played the rusty rim game before and it?s a pretty much a losing battle but i can usually can get em to hold air for a long time the biggest secret is getting as much of the rust and clean up as much as you can and paint em
