I am getting ready to sandblast and
international 4700 truck frame to be put
together for a grain truck I want the thing
to last what is your recommendations for
priming and painting por15 paint I see mixed
reviews on. Not sure if this is the best way
to go just paint with por15 and forget about
looking for any and all input.

I have never seen anything but good reviews of POR 15. I would think it unwise to paint without it after sandblasting, because there are always tiny specs of rust in the pits that will cause bubbles in the paint in as little as 2-3 years.

I have never used POR15 but have read you must follow the instruction to the penny. I have read stories of it pealing off when directions where not followed. I have also seen the results when done correctly and it looks great. One word of caution is POR stands for Paint Over Rust. It is meant to paint over rust. Not sure how it works on sandblasted surfaces. POR15 has a special wash solution and acid etch solution to use before applying the top coat.

If it was me on a sandblasted frame I would epoxy prime and top coat with black Rustoleum. If you just want to knock the rust and dirt off with a wire wheel then POR15. If you are worried about some small rust specks left after sandblasting then you can use an acid solution like OSPHO. Just make sure the epoxy primer is okay with acid prep. Some epoxy primers are fine with acid some are not. I have used Omni epoxy primer over OSHO with no issues.

Used to be a paint called frame saver or chassis saver. Don't know if it's still around or not. It was very similar to the factory paint used on frames years ago. I painted a truck frame with it years ago,it held up very well. If you got it on your hands, nothing would get it off, not acetone,or lacquer thinner, it had to wear off.

I always keep some around. have used it on old equipment, dusty pieces where it was difficult to get clean and not really worth to much effort. my experience it never peels. bites into most anything. on jobs I care about I will litely sandblast. have used epoxy primer on properly cleaned parts on trucks and had the Poor 15 areas hold up better 5 years later.
