Painting a John Deere Unstyled

I know this has been discussed before but what is everybody's process when using PPG paint on a John Deere. We are doing a complete nut and bolt restoration on an Unstyled B and don't want to use the John Deere paint as it ALWAYS seems to fade rather quickly no matter what we do. What are you using for the primer, the green and yellow, and clear coat? and what PPG code numbers? Thanks for your replies in advanced!

Unstyled G Guy,

The above G was painted with PPG Omni MTK.GL, color code #46180 and MP170 GL EP primer. However, keep in mind that there are at least 3 other "John Deere green" paint codes. This one seems to be a darker green than what I see on modern JD tractors. I got this code from the website of a fellow who used to post a lot of good information on here regularly, Rod(NH). His website address is: http://rodnh.byethost12.com/?ckattempt=1

Can't comment on fading potential, as I tend to keep my tractors in the shed when not in use.

Good luck!

I agree with what "G" said. If you want to go base/clear use same code and go with PPG base and PPG DC 3000 clear if you are painting it in pieces or slower DC4000 if clearing big areas. My personal green code is different than his but like he said, many are same once sprayed. I've used PPG products exclusively since 1986 in the auto body/paint business and none better.
