more on electrolysis

I'm having luck with electrolysis but after soaking, this is what I do....not sure if it's a good plan.

1) soak in electrolysis bath until I feel all sides have been hit for a few hours with a line of site from the electrode path
2) Remove from bath and rinse to get the lye/water mix off the metal
3) scrub with a 3m scotch brite pad. This is the black stuff on clean metal.
4) if clean enough then I spray with metal prep
5) rinse metal prep off in about 20 mins
6) let dry
7) wipe off white powder when ready to prime

Does that sound right? I'm not sure if I'm using metal prep correctly. Also, not sure what to do if part is too big for bucket and need to flip over. Do I metal prep the half that is done as it will flash rust.

Let me know if anything could be improved on....thanks, moday

Moday, this has been my experience
1. electrolysis bath usually overnight. I had rebar grid in my tub, including on the bottom for good line of site on all sides
2 remove from bath and rinse or pressure wash
3. scrub with scotch bride pad and soap, get as clean as possible
4. I would dry thourghly sometimes play the flame of an oxy/acetylene torch over to make sure the parts are dry.
4a. I Had a large plastic tub I put small parts in to keep from rusting. I even put a DampRid package in tub to dehumidify while storing until I got enough parts clean to prime and paint.
5. I am not familiar with metal prep. I used Picklex 20 (phosphoric acid) on pitted parts to kill the rust in the pits. (not on cast-iron) I followed the directions for Picklex 20. I brushed in on and into the pits for 1 minute and then wiped off excess do not let dry on metal
6 If you have a heavy white residue on part use a scotch bride pad to remove excess
7 I wiped parts down with a wax and grease remover just prior to painting. on some parts it took a lot of time to get a white rag to come up clean.
I hope this helps you on your project.
Picklex 20
