Phosphoric acid

I used phosphoric acid to convert rust. After several hours the rust turned black as I understand it should. Then in a couple days it started turning white. What do I do now? Is something wrong?

Nope normal. Woke some say you can paint right over it (and I have with no ill effects) I would rather scotch bright it off. Why ask for trouble? I just knock the loose stuff off.

Yes it is normal. It is the acid that did not get converted. I wash my articles that I treat before they have time to turn white. Small pieces I toss int a 5 gal. bucket for awhile then brush. large pieces I pressure wash. Usually I have just a little white here and there left over. I don't worry about it. It is inert and will not grow like rust does.

Yes it is normal. Here is a pic of my 34 Model A after being treated and ready for epoxy primer. You can see some white on it. I always wipe it down good with a cleaner/degreaser (Prepsol) just before applying primer. This pic was taken in 2008 and the paint turned out great and still looks like new.
