Red or Black?

Anyone know what color came from the factory on the starter and generator on a Ford 961? I've seen them both ways but not sure which way is correct. Also, how about the carb? Thanks...

I don't really know but I suspect when people paint one they pull the sheetmetal off and paint everything red. If you bought a replacement starter or generator it would be black or metal color.

Absolutely positively RED!!!! Here are some reasons. Every starter and generator will go to the shop to get repaired every 15 to 25 years, right? Every starter repair shop stocks every color that a starter could have been originally right? NOT! Whenever you buy a new starter they come from a factory that has a full range of tractor paint colors on hand, right? NOT! Almost every time that a tractor owner gets a black starter in place of the one that did match his tractor before, instead of putting it on, he stops work, goes and picks up some paint, paints it and resumes work the next day, right? NOT! The black one goes on, so over the next thirty years nearly all starters end up going from the original color to black. Now for the biggest reason. We all know that no new tractor would have started at the factory, coming off the line if the stater were black. How do we know this? Simple, we have all read threads where a tractor will not crank well. One question that is often asked is: "does the starter have a good ground to the chassis? or is there paint in there? The OP is Told that if there is paint there to scrape it clean. So would the factory have paid someone to scrape paint on every tractor coming down the line? of course not! They put the starter and genny on before painting. If you still don't believe me go on U-tube and watch the video that Ford put out to advertise the Jubilee when it came out, and look for yourself. Another bit of evidence is found on newer unmolested tractors. Look closely behind the starter, and at the back of a starter if you have one off. The paint does not cover fully in behind to the back in there. It is thin and rough because of the difficulty in getting the spray gun in there.
