Question 2. Prepping for primer

Before I get going on the tractor, I decided to do the back blade to test out the new LVLP sprayer. I got it wire wheel cleaned with a die grinder and 4" wheel (those things can be dangerous!) and brushed off. What next step would be best? I'm going to blow it off with compressed air tomorrow to get rid of all the dust. Do I then need to just wipe it down with laquer thinner or mineral spirits before priming or should I spray it down with the degreaser I use on the tractor, power wash it and then after drying, spray the primer? Came out pretty decent so far. When I degreased the tractor, it came out spotless with this stuff and dried clean as could be. Not sure if I still would have to go further with the lacquer thinner or mineral spirits to get it ready for primer.

If it has any of the old paint on it at all I wouldn't use lacquer thinner to clean it with. It's such a strong solvent it could easily lift the old paint like paint stripper. Mineral spirits would be safe however it tends to leave a residue which might not be compatible with the primer. If you have some naphtha that would be a cleaner solvent that would be safe. If you really want the correct solvent use a wax and grease remover such as Dupont Prepsol Solvent.

Degreasing a tractor you can't go by the way it looks. It could look perfect and still have oils penetrated in the old finish. It's always a good idea to wash a tractor down with a wax and grease remover frequently changing rags.
