Getting ready to paint a 1940 MM tractor. No paint codes are available except automotive
paint. Priced it out at 300$ gallon. International Navistar bus yellow. I have paint chips
from under tractor and hood. Where does a guy get reasonable priced paint? I don't want
cheap paint but also don't want paint worth more than tractor! Ideas?

if you dont want the farm and fleet stuff, and the automotive line is spendy, check out a glidden professional paint store (not a big box) look a the devoe industrial and maintenance coatings. they are steps above rustoleum, and used in industrial plants and tank farms ie refineries. you will be around 100 dollars a gallon.

Equipment color.com has Sherwin Williams and it is pretty good paint for 65 a gallon. Stamm tractors in Kansas sells for them call them and they will have it to you pretty quick.

There really isn't an in-between paint. You either pay for automotive paint which would last 15 or more years or enamel which may only last 5 years. A lot of the problem with paint is the color. Colors like yellow and red are bad to fade especially on cheap paint. If you are painting black, white or gray you can get away with cheap paint a lot longer. You just have to decide. It's lot of work to paint a tractor, is it worth the price difference not to have to do the job again in five years or so.

I consider the Nason to be an in between paint. I recently got paint for my Datsun roadster. 2 qts base 2 qts clear and the activators and reducers a quart of high build primer and activator for a little over $300.00

You might consider Sher-Kem enamel from Sherwin Williams. It's suppose to be a urethane. I've never used it so I don't know how colorfast it is. It's formulated to paint implements, dumpsters and things used rough. It's suppose to run about 35 bucks a gallon.

Still having no luck here in Canada for paint. Not going to spend 400$ gallon plus primer. Bringing US paint may be an issue.
