Air pressure


It depends on the type of gun, I've got guns that like 15psi and then others that do better with 35psi, it can also vary with what you are spraying.
Do a search on the internet for your particular setup and see what they recommend, use that as a starting point and do some test panels, play with the pressure some and see where you get the best results, you want to limit overspray while getting good transfer without it being too dry looking, but you also don't want runs from being too heavy.
 
My HVLP guns have it stamped on the gun the maximum air pressure. It must be measured at the gun with a gauge. I have only painted one tractor so maybe others will chime in.
 
Like ih560 said the pressure varies depending on the spray gun and the finish you are spraying. If you were spraying an enamel paint the pressure would be much more than an automotive paint. Automotive paints are thin as water where an enamel is thick. All I can say is start at 40 psi and see what happens and adjust the pressure up or down until it sprays like you need. It would be best to practice on something scrap before spraying a project so you can get used to spraying paint and get the gun adjusted as needed.
 
Don't the people that sell all you guys paint give out any application guides or tech sheets? This is all covered there.
 
What "Dr. " said...and also..this is why you can't "paint out of a book". Everyone has to "pay their dues" so to speak and use the ole "gord" and experiment until you get it right for you, your gun, your air supply, temp, humidity , job size , and the look you want to achieve. Some things you just have to learn on the fly. When it comes to paint/body , every job is an "experiment" even for us in the profession.
 
Agreed, probably not much info you could get here that would be better than the actual manufacturer instructions!
