What is a good price for a paint job

I get that question at least once a week. Well here's the answer( Almost).
1. Do you want a steam it off and use $30.00 a gallon paint.
2. Do you want the tractor totally disassembled or just enough to get by.
3. Do you want ALL the dents and dings removed-primed and block sanded or just spray
the paint over what is there.
4. Do you want the tires removed from the rims or just paint tires and all.
5. What about the hoses and wiring harness and all the little goodies that weren't
painted from the factory.
6.The paint to paint a tractor can cost from as little as fifty dollars to well over
a thousand dollars.
7.Restoration quality paint jobs and just a cover it up paint job can be hundreds and
hundreds of dollars apart. It is all about what you are looking for and how much you
are willing to spend.

The body is in pretty good shape, so just paint over what is there, no need to remove tires, just paint the rims-Any good paint is fine.

I can do that for $200.00

A good paint job means you do it yourself. There is more work involved than what you can charge for. I mean it's a lot more work to paint a tractor than to paint a car and to do a car right costs more than a grand.

I would do it while you wait, it would take only an hour. Most of that would be letting it dry after pressure washing.

I see Showcrop offered to paint for $200, actually painting does not take long, and that is probably about right if you buy the materials, The correct prep and materials is where the money is. I think it would take at least a few days effort to do a good job. I would never paint a tractor unless good prep is complete, and using good paint. It will take 3-4 quarts of base color paint, plus another quart of secondary color. The dealers usually have the correct color for the year of that tractor and their paint is pretty good. Might as well P@ss on it instead of using farm store paint, the results will be about as good.

If you want to do the painting yourself, keep posting, we will assist with answers.

(quoted from post at 08:43:00 06/17/17) And you will have a crappy job.

David G, perhaps you missed this post from the OP:

quoted from post at 18:50:40 06/16/17) The body is in pretty good shape, so just paint over what is there, no need to remove tires, just paint the rims-Any good paint is fine.

Saying you can clean it up and do a good paint job in an hour is BS, and there are good paints and crappy paints.

David, I'll try to make it more clear. I am offering to do what the OP is asking for. He said specifically. "paint over what is there" and "any good paint" since no paint is sold as poor or fair, this means that Majic alkyd enamel is perfectly adequate.

Ever try the Rustoleum Farm and Implement paint? I just used some and it seems to be pretty descent paint for an alkyd. It's some of the hardest paint to clean out of my spray equipment. It looks good, I just don't know how long it will last before it fades.

i would have about 800 or so in material alone on that one. we switched over to ppg envirobase water borne from diamont a few months ago. we had trouble getting material from basf. all the critical stuff was always on back order. the water base is working out really well, but it is a learning curve. outstanding color match.

Geez, letting it dry out would take at least a day unless you like water in your paint. Maybe if you lived in AZ??!

Ya gits what you pays for.........good paint ain't cheap and NO paint is any good if you're going over grease, oil, dust, dirt etc etc etc.
As stated, it all depends on many factors. If someone asked me to paint over a bunch of crap, I simply wouldn't do it! Not worth my time to do a bad job that makes me nothing but unhappy.

Here is the kind of job that I prefer to do:

This is America where you can get it your way, not my way or not at all.

(quoted from post at 21:42:15 06/20/17) I've seen Showcrops tractor and i'd have to say its one of the nicest one that i have seen.
