I am sitting here trying to decide whether or not to have the hood and rear fender assembly on my MF 14 acid dipped. I removed the decals and glue residue from the sides, but looking at that front decal, it seems to be a daunting task. I was told it may not be a good idea to have it dipped, because it has about 10 inches of piano (strap) hinge on the front. I was told that dipping will remove ALL paint between portions of the hinge, and rust will eventually creep out. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks Greg

The acid, besides cleaning, if it is phosphoric, would convert any rust, even hidden, to iron phosphate. The iron phosphate is, in itself a practice coating. If you go over it with SEM rust seal, so that it seeps in between those surfaces, it would form a protective barrier. I have seen a lot of positive comments about having old car bodies dipped in acid.
