Car hit in parking lot paint on fender

My car a Nissan 2015 was hit in a parking garage. Front fender and plastic bumper. Their is a very small dent about the size of a 50 cent piece
and 1/8 inch deep, that I can possibly live with. The estimate was close to $1000.
My question is it has white paint about 10 inches long on a black car. How should I remove the paint? I'm only familiar with the heavy DuPont
compound of years ago. Please advise the best way to get of the white paint and to rewax ETC. Thanks for any advise I don't want to scratch
the life out of it,

Try scraping, with a plastic scraper and very carefully. If you feel confident you can use a razor blade with both ends cover with masking tape to scrape also. keep it almost parallel with the surface. then use 2000 grit paper on a small block, again lightly/carefully and keep it wet.

Once the paint is gone, buff with quality finishing compound like 3M Perfect It. Buffer, not grinder speed and very little pressure.

forgot to add: body shop supply will have little plastic, razor blade shaped, scrapers. Mostly used for removing runs, but might work for this too.

Even if you get the white paint off the paint underneath will be scratched too. If it were me I would plan on sanding the white paint off and repainting the spot. You could get a can of Dupli-Color paint to match and spot spray the area sanding between coats until you get the scratches filled. Once you get it leveled out wet sand with 2000 grit paper and compound the area so it blends in with the existing paint. The plastic bumper will prime and paint just like it was metal. I've fixed a bumper before which had a 6" diameter hole in it by saving all the pieces and plastic welding them back in.

Thanks for the replys. The dent is on the crease line so dent less removal won't work so the body shop said. As I stated its almost not noticble, but is. We keep the car in great shape so really I guess we want it fixed. The $1000 seems steep, for what it seems to me, only costing me the $250 deductible. The biggest costs are removing the front bumper, headlight etc. This ran the cost way up. I wonder if they really are going to do this or just sand and paint the way it is. It is a reputable body shop. I know a few of you guys work at body shops or have before. What's your thoughts? They knew I had insurance, asked if cash or would I be turning it in. I said turn it in and was kinda shocked by the cost. I know everyone has to make a profit as I've done tree work my whole life and clearly get that part. Thanks, John

Why mess with it if it only costs $250?--You can't do it as good as they do. Also, you cannot duplicate the paint, the body shop will be close and possibly 100% depending on the color and how much metallic in it -- On my 2005 GMC I backed into a metal post, made a small dent in the corner above the bumper, I think they painted the corner after fixing the dent and sprayed clear over the whole side. The result was a slightly less color depended on the light. The shop uses PPG and said that due to the heavy metallic, it could not be exactly the same. But, it's ok.

Yup, for the $250 should just get it fixed right. That includes dent repair, paint and clear to blend everything in as you have mentioned. It will be in the shop 4-7 days, I guess for the paint to cure. Renta car will be no added cost. Pretty cheap to get it right, thanks for everyone thoughts and advise,

A good part of the cost at a body shop is overhead. There's lots of things necessary to do a good job and some of them are disposable items like sandpaper, masking tape and paper/plastic. Good tools cost, especially for what they are doing. I'm not a body man but I play one in my spare time just on my own vehicles and I can tell you first hand, doing a good job even with simple repairs can get costly pretty quick!

3M makes a white compound for polishing ? I think it is called finnes or finnesit ? I used that on my blue car with white stuff on it from a garage door frame. I still think my daughter did it !
