working on repainting my Super C. is it worth the trouble to pull the manifold and paint it with high temp black or is just a waist of time.

My SC is not a show tractor, but i do want it red again.

Mask off the rusty exhaust manifold and paint the intake manifold. Don't bother painting the exhaust
manifold, they run way too hot for any paint under a heavy load.

Ceramic coating will hold up if you apply it the way manufacture tells you to. It will get dull with age but not rust. Most of your new turbos are ceramic coated . I used high heat paint on my 450s muffler and burnt off at the first pull I made. I striped it and baked on a high heat ceramic coating (VHT) 6 years ago and shows no signs of coming off.

Your 450's muffler runs a L-O-T cooler that it's exhaust manifold that the original poster was asking about.

Your 450's exhaust manifold is made from common IH gray iron. Most Turbocharger housings are made from a high Nickle iron called Ni-Resist.

I painted the muffler on my '39 H with VHT high temp paint in 1965. It still rusted inside and out. The new ceramic VHT paint would have the same result. It's the base material the paint is put on that fails, not the paint. Ceramic plasma coating the manifold and/or muffler would last longer, but probably not forever. You metal spray a fairly thick layer on top of the metal.

That tractor plowing at night the muffler will glow bright orange ( lower 2/3s of muffler body) the same as manifold. The new VHT ceramic has to be baked on to hold up. You can't just spray it on and let it dry and take it out and use it because it won't hold up. There is no coating that I know of that stops rotting from inside out.

I found some stuff from Eastwood that I use on my street hot rod manifolds ( I got sick of headers). It looks like a steel grey and if you clean the manifold put it on like they say I holds up really really well
