guys what is in your opinion is good to very good HVLP paint gun, I am wanting to upgrade. right now I have a devilbiss HVLP and I shoot Sherman Williams auto body paint single stage with hardener. I paint tractors and trucks for myself and my sons, we will be painting my son pulling truck this summer and want to do a nice job as well as my gun getting some time on it.
thanks

As a body shop owner , our top gun is the sata. Next is anest iwata gun. They are spendy, but for quality work, they are the go to guns.

I have a Devilbiss, GTI that was top of the line a few years back. It's not an Iwata or Sata but it is an excellent gun.

Less than 1/2 their price and works fine for me. Some clears work better than others out of it, but all I've used are OK. It's just that the cheaper ones need more sanding/buffing.

I see no reason to upgrade.

BTW, Devilbiss makes several grades of guns, Starting Line, Finish Line, GTI etc. So, the brand means less that the series. If you have one of the first two, an upgrade is probably warranted.

probably nothing wrong with the Devilbis gun. The quality of a paint job is in the preparation, experience of the painter and having the right spray tip and mix of paint and thinner. Most older guns have tips a little on the large size for the newer 2 part paints. The newer guns with 1.4 tips are a little small for old style cheaper alkyd paints such as sold at the tractor supply stores. A new SATA is worth the money if you make a living with a gun as you can get a larger spray pattern and get around the vehicle or object being painted faster. I have Binks, Devilbiss and Sharpe guns. At the present time I am sort of partial to the Sharpe for base coat-clear coat paint but prefer the old Binks for synthetic enamel such as Tractor Supply paint. The real secret is Keep the guns meticulously clean. I often spend more time cleaning the gun than spraying. Also, it is not a bad idea to play with a flow cup to see if your paint is at a proper consistency for the equipment you are using. Most painters I know use considerably more reducer than suggested on the mix sheets for most paints.
