706 grille paint

The 706 Farmall grille I wish to paint has, as close as I can figure, about 50,000 .075" holes. The last repaint plugged a bunch of them up and I spent more than an hour punching them out with an awl. It is straight but has a few rusty areas. How should I deal with the rust? How should I go about priming and painting it without plugging those tiny holes? How do you remove the chrome or aluminium trim pieces without destroying anything?
thanks

I think I would have used a drill to open up the holes on the grill. If the holes are that small you would probably be better off to completely strip all the paint off. Then repaint it with thinner paint than an enamel. Being white I think it would be alright to use rattle can paint.
