I bought a 601 workmaster and have been working on it for some time. I discovered
it is actually a 801 model 851 with a 601 hood and grille. I am going to paint the hood
vermillion red and the fenders grille and rims medium grey. I planned on putting a
601 workmaster decalogue on the hood but I now I don't know. I will leave it with no
identification but it will look strange with new paint and tires and no identification.
Any advice will be appreciated.

I'd either buy a new hood n grill. Or just find a "ford" decal for it.tuff choice depending on working the tractor or showing, I doubt most people could tell if there is a difference. I couldn't lol

Paint is really up to you. You can always put an 801 powermaster decal on it. Take into consideration that the 801 is worth more than the 601 when you go to sell it. The hood and dogleg are the same on the 601 and the 801 except that the 801 dogleg has a hole near the bottom for the bottom section of the 801 grill. If it were me I would hunt up an 801 grill, drill a hole for the bottom section on the dogleg and paint it the correct 801 colors with the correct powermaster decal. You can always sell your grill to offset some of the cost.
If you really like the 601 colors than paint it how you like it. Here's my 631.
