I have had Binks spray guns for years. My youngest is starting to do some paint work on some of the farm equipment he is rebuilding. I am thinking of getting him a new paint gun just to paint enamel paint with( Christmas idea). My guns are getting pretty worn and I would like him to have good one that would last him years. Is the modern Binks guns still good??? Are they US made??? If they are still good any certain model to look for??

Is there other brands I should be looking at??? I want a siphon gun as it is easier painting at odd angles with them over the gravity guns.

I still have/use the two De-Vilbiss and two Binks I've used to make a living since '71. One is a Binks 69 I bought new in 1971. Never rebuilt. That being said, for what he is going to do with it , here is what I would recommend especially for equipment painting at all angles including upside down or spraying straight up at the underside of something. A small 1 or 2 qt "pressure pot" with 3' of hoses leading to the gun. You can either hold pot by handle in one hand and gun in other or sit pot on floor and just hold gun. They have a regulator/guage on pot for amount of pressure in pot forcing paint out and on gun an air pressure reg/guage for atomizing air and the atomizing tip adjusts for spray fan width and knob on gun adjusts volume from zero to full open so you can tune air: fluid ratio for perfect atomization. Last I knew they were abt $ 600 but am sure someone has them cheaper. For painting equipment they are the best type gun hands down. You can spray a 12" fan or turn it way down for touch up and spray the head of a bolt without overspray. Easy to clean and last forever. I have one out in the shop and can get details/brand etc if you want to google them. Also forgot , hardly any overspray loss since they are pressure so the only air needed is for atomization.

I bought a used JGHV 530 at an estate sale for 20 bucks. { The famous customizer George Barris said the Devilbiss guns atomizer better than Binks.] I always wanted the Binks when I was a Kid but the paint supply was a Devilbiss distributor and I ended up with top of the line JGA . I thought the Binks had a better anti-drip system . The Devilbiss anti- drip worked differently but it worked. If your gun is worn rebuilding is an option.

J.D. I've had a model 7 Binks for years. I thought it should be overhauled because of how long I've had it!When I contacted Binks for an overhaul kit, the Binks man said they haven't changed that gun design for ever. I do use both,a HVLP and a syphin (sp?)gun both have there place in painting! just my .02 cents...Jim in N.M.

What kind of pressures do you run of spraying a good quality Implement paint? How much thinner & hardener do you add?

Not what you asked, but: get a good gravity feed gun and these:

That's just one seller to illustrate what I'm recommending.
Gravity feed guns are much easier to clean and require a lot less solvent to do so. With those liners it's even easier AND you can even spray upside down, no drips, no leaks.
If you are using high quality paints, as you know they are expensive! With a gravity feed you can use the very last drop, no waste.
I got rid of some very good siphon feed guns and now only use gravity feed HVLP.

Clear and urethanes go through my Devilbiss 620G, everything else one of the 4 or 5 Harbor Freight guns.
