How long will primer last?

I spray painted the tailgate of my old trailer with gray oil base acryic enamel primer.

I really like the dull matte finish. I would like to leave it just as it is....but how long will it last?

It won't last long as a finish. It's heavy on solids and therefore very porous which would allow water to penetrate. If you like the dull sheen a finish could have flattening compounds added to it to make it dull however even doing that would shorten the duty life of the finish some. The glossier the finish you use the longer it will last.

I agree with Stephen. Primer is not intended to be a final coat. Without a topcoat, it won't last very long. You'd very shortly see rust showing through the primer.

Acrylic enamel with hardener and flattener or even base/clear with a flattener would give you a dull finish if that's what you want.
