painting queston

Is it ok to sandblast prime and paint all the sheetmetal and come back aand do the rest 6 months later? WIll the paint on the done stuff fade? Thanks

I had Van Sickle red IHC spray paint go on perfect, then develop a white film just sitting inside the barn, out of the sun, over a few months time. Very objectionable. I over-sprayed with real Case-IHC paint, and no problems. I'd never store a tractor outside. They can survive for a while, but there are consequences.

If you use an automotive paint you shouldn't have a problem. Depending on color and brand paint you may have difficulty with an alkyd paint fading in six months. A color with red in it is especially prone to fade but this problem could be eliminated by keeping the sheet metal in a dark place. Personally all the work that goes into painting a tractor I can't see going cheap and using an alkyd enamel. Even a gray paint will start looking bad in seven or eight years.
