Nason SelectPrime(421-17) 2K Urethane Primer question

Hey Yall,

In the process of restoring a John Deere model "M", and I'm bout ready for painting. I have purchased all Nason products in a single stage urethane. During my rust / old paint removal / sanding process I have had to take most of it down to bare metal. My question is: Can I use the above mentioned primer on the properly prepared bare metal or do I need to use an epoxy primer first? I am already over budget on this tractor and having to spend the extra $150 or so will only deepen it. Painting is all I like before starting to put it back together, i have already gotten all the other parts / pieces i need.

Thank you in advance for any and all answers. Its been a long time since I have had to paint anything.

Yea the epoxy primer adheres to the metal great but you can't sand and level the finish with it. You put the urethane primer over the top of the epoxy for that.

Thanks yall.

I went ahead and bit the bullet and bought the epoxy primer. No sense in doing a half *** job when I've already put all this time and money in it anyways.
