painting aluminum

I have a 2005 Ford Expedition the Tailgate is aluminum and there are a few spots that are bubbling up thru the paint. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best method of repairing. I scraped one in a spot that isn't to noticeable and there is a whitish powder under the paint bubble. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Don

the corrosion goes all the way thru the panel. aluminum "powders out" instead of rusting like steel. common on aluminum hoods, deck lids and rear gates. pop the rear trim panel off and look at the metal from the back side. if its not too bad, you can apply some all metal aluminum filler as a down and dirty patch. once it starts its hard to stop.

If it was me I would sandblast the affected area and prime it with Dupont Variprime primer. Then paint it with the automotive paint of your choice.
