Picklex 20 and body filler question

I was looking on their web site about using Picklex 20 and body filler. Their web site says you can use body filler on Picklex 20 treated metal after a light buffing, but that it is better to put body filler over primer. Does anyone have any experience one way or the other.

I am planning on using epoxy primer and from the reading I have done on this forum there are 2 schools of thought, One is to put putty on bare metal and the other is to put putty on epoxy primed metal (within the recoat window)

I feel I need to use the Picklex 20 because of the small pits in the sheetmetal.

Picklex 20 is a good treatment for metal however I would use the epoxy primer as the next step and then a fiberglass filler. Rust can easily travel horizontally underneath paint but it won't where epoxy primer is used. In the event there was a nick in the paint to the metal the rust would stay isolated to that spot.

I have never put filler on epoxy, in fact I have left bare parts for a year with no rust -- but it is dry here (18 inches of rain average). Everything is kept in a insulated building. Seems like everyone else live where humidity is high all the time. Not in western Kansas. All I am saying, it depends on where the people live.

Thanks for the replies, It sounds like either way would be ok. i like the idea of getting epoxy on it right away with the humidity in my area, my ability schedule time to work on it, and the info from the Picklex 20
web site I think I will be OK

Keep in mind epoxy primer has a recoat window usually about 8 hours. This means if you prime it one day and wait until after the recoat window as expired it will need to be scuff sanded and primed with epoxy again before you topcoat. If you plan to do the body work over the primer this would be better anyway.
