Painting rear tractor rims

Tape and newspaper, but I always just get right after them with paint thinner and a rag right after I'm done and the over spray wipes right off.

Frank, I just did mine and I used a piece of thin cardboard about 16 to 20 inches and cut it to the radius of the rim, than I just moved it along as I sprayed the rim, worked out well. Jim in N.M.

You could just masking tape and paper to mask the rubber off. Another option would be to brush the rubber with liquid masking. It brushes on like paint and peals off like tape when you are done. Someone here last year went around the wheel and stuffed playing cards behind the rim to shield the rubber from the paint. I don't know how they kept paint from running between the cards though.

I trimmed an old aluminum license plate to the right curvature, it fits right in between the rim the tire. Just scooch it around as I paint.

If tires dont have calcium or other fluid in them, keeping tires on the rim deflate them and cut out some cardboard that you can slide up and under the rim. Just my $0.02

I use masking paper and tape to paint that's what I used to my rims to

I buy a tub of Crisco and brush it on the rubber being careful not to get it on the rim by using thin cardboard as a barrier while brushing it on. When you get done just wash the Crisco off and no paint will be stuck to the tire. Just make sure you wash it off soon after the paint has cured...it comes off harder the longer it sits.

(quoted from post at 14:39:34 04/29/16) Tires are mounted, how can tires be protected so as not to over spray paint on them. Thanks Frank
I let let most of the air out of the tires and pushed tape down between the rim and tire. I then covered the tire with craft paper. Works good.

Frank..I used the thin cardboard radius cutout and moved it around the rim. I tried to be careful and still got some overspray on the tire. Thought about it a little and waited ubtil the paint dried and got a stiff wire brush and the oversray came off pretty easy.
Put a wire brush in the drill and it was like using an eraser, worked great.

(quoted from post at 22:07:09 07/05/16) I also tried but my paint was too fluid. It was not fixed well.
I know a painter that covers the tire with dish soap, after the paint has dried he just washes it off. He says it works good.
