A lot depends on what paint you will be using. With a lot of paints you could use a cheap HF sprayer with excellent results. I painted this tractor including the stenciling with a twenty five dollar sprayer using urethane.

Sata is one of the more expensive, I have one and can tell the difference between a $300 and $500 one. It is simply smoother --- BUT whether it is needed is questionable. Anything within the range you gave is ok. Call Autostore and talk to him -- he might try to sell you the best, but he has cheaper ones that are fine. You can probably buy good ones where you live or the nearest town provided they know something about them for the price.

Can't beat the harbor freight HVLP I have painted all kinds of stuff from deer stands to cars and truck with them and they work great they just require a little more air pressure then most when spraying a enamal tractor paint.

Here is an old skool devilbiss JGA series gun . At one time this would be top of the mark . Before SATA and Iwata entered the game. Devilbiss also has a finishline group of modern guns. I would ask how many tractors you will paint . If you only have one project you may not need the top of the line gun. I tried a H=F gun and it worked it is just the disposable cup system dripped clear on my work. So yes you can use a H-F gun and have decent paint. 300-400 should be plenty of money . If you are going to paint alot check out an Iwata or SATA gun. If it is going to sit on a shelf all year consider a cheaper gun. What now is considered industry best would be top SATA gun.
