I am no expert, but I have found out mainly from the experts here that there is a lot of difference in quality of fillers. I have concluded that fiberglass reinforced is stronger and more desirable. A friend who builds expensive rods out of rusty junks said to use Evercoat light weight, because it sands down a lot more easily. I bought Glass Light by Evercoat. IUt is middle of the road in price, around $65.00 for a gal. It is supposed to be water proof and rust proof. I got it from my local branch of an in-state autoparts chain, where I also get my paint.

if it's a deep dent or crease. You will want to start with a fiberglass reinforced filler(short strand) and finish off with a light weight filler. Shallow dents are fine with a light weight filler as well. If there is a lot of flext in the part. Try to smooth out the metal as much as possible. A good rule of thumb would be anything over a 1/4 inch of filler has a better chance of cracking. The less filler the better

also don't be afraid of using heavy grit sand paper. But be sure to work your way down to 180-320 before priming. Otherwise the sand scratches will show up in the paint

marvelous5891, thanks for that, I was just about to start putting Evercoat Light over Everoat short strand fiberglass for finishing up. It is great to know that it is accepted practice.

we have been using evercoat rage ultra here at the shop, and are trying out a new one from 3m, platinum select. both are excellent performers and dont pin hole like a lot of the other fillers. they are very easy sanding too, which is a blessing on the super thin metals in the new cars. both are in the 50 dollar /gallon range. they are not as thick as the conventional fillers and a lot easier to apply.

I did not use enough hardner today{high humidity 89*] Evercoat glaze. Do I sand it down to bare metal or will it eventually harden?
