Has anyone had experience with vinyl wrap as a alternative to painting. If so comments.

On a tractor? Can't picture it working
well if at all. I know a local company
bought a fleet of trucks and rather than
repaint the cabs had them wrapped, seems
to have held up well, but these were
late model with good paint just wrong
color. It won't be good over damaged
paint with big chips gouges etc

It was "invented" for an alternative to the time consuming painting on race cars that usually needed re-done every week and also changed and added/removed sponsors like underwear and usually have computerized graphics that would take forever to do just to get beat up every weekend. Saves thousands of dollars a week and no one sees it up close and personal to see all the flaws. Look at a cup car up close and most body/painters would laugh. It has it's place...and should probably stay there.

It is a product that allowed thousands of people to enter an industry that primarily used hand lettering and skills to produce signs. It can't compare to paint because it is not paint but , a giant decal. For what they cost you could buy a cheap plotter and make them yourself. The price of the plotters that cut the vinyl has come way down. To me it is a sickening assault on an industry that required skilled craftsmen.
