Fiberglass boby panels???

I have a 1996 GMC 1500 extended cab pickup. The lower cab corners and rocker panels are shot. I have found steel panels (Mills company) but I also see fiberglass ones too. This is just a driver truck. So the finish is not going to be anything other then NON rusty!! LOL It is two tone so I just plan on painting the bottom down from the lower trim strip. I did buy the gun to use the body adhesive. So I am really thinking about just trimming out the junk/rust and attaching fiber glass panels with the panel adhesive.

The reason I am asking about the fiber glass panels is they will not rust but are they tough enough to last without cracks or other problems???

Fill the rust holes with body putty, smooth that out and cover the whole lower section with bedliner. Works pretty good and will last better than a fiberglass panel.

JD , the only thing about using the glas is that most of these "replacement" sections are not made very precise and at least the steel ones can be "coaxed" around a little to make fit by heat/hammer/weld tack until right and then finish welded up and gaps will be right. Fiberglass is going to be what it is, you ain't going to bend it or form it. Like I say, if they were perfect fit...go glass but I've NEVER seen any that are correct.

I agree with stephel newell.

I have a f450 that the entire bed is fiberglass .. nothing wrong with that. If you hit something it cracks.

metal bends. both can be repaired... different tools..
