Full Face Mask Recommendations?? (supplied air)

Hello, I have a Hobby Air supplied air machine with half mask. I paint with urethane paints and have used just a half mask in the past and I realize that you shouldn't have your eyes exposed to the ISOs as it is with a half mask. I'm considering upgrading and buying a full face mask but was wondering how those of you who use them like them?
Do they make it hard to see and do a good job painting?
Does paint dust/overspray get on them rather quickly and make it hard to see out of?
Do they ever have a tendency to fog up or does the incoming air prevent that at all times?
Does anyone recommend any particular brands? I've seen an Axis for $289.99,Opti-Fit for $249, and an SAS Flip Vue for $179.

Please let me know your experiences with them!

Thanks in advance!

I have the full face Hobby Air mask. It is fine, just a little clumsy whatever that means. You need the stick on clear plastic shields to prevent getting paint dust on the mask. It won't fog up except when you have it on and are plugging it in. The Hobby ones result in warm air, particularly in the summer. But I usually paint only a few minutes so that it isn't a problem Actually I'm considering getting a half mask and use goggles for my eyes. But, those will get dust on them and will only tolerate a few cleanings. I wear my glasses when not using urethane, epoxy etc don't seem to cause any problems--so for you, you just have to try it.

Thanks CNKS! The goggle idea sounds pretty good if they had tear offs for them??...ever heard of that before? Where do you get your tear offs for your full face mask?

The same place that the masks come from. You likely need a new one any time you paint unless you only do it a couple of minutes.

This is totally off subject from what you are asking...but, your post reminded me of a time in the early 90's. At that ime I dealt with a lot of Scott-Air packs with the full face masks.

Anyway, I had some left over and adapted one to fit a 1/2 inch Tygon tubing that was about 40 feet long.I hooked it to a air compressor @ around 10 PSI.

Had an in-ground pool with a 10 foot deep end. My 13 year old son would spent hours under water in that pool. When I wanted him to come in...all I had to do was go out and turn off the air compressor. He came up pretty quick! LOL.

greg, just a safety tip for you as a long time scuba diver. your son was at risk for an air embolism while breathing compressed air at depth. 14 ft is a one atmosphere pressure change, so at 10 ft he was pretty close, air breathed at depth will expand as you surface, so with a full breath of air, it can expand beyond the lung capacity if he does not exhale. also, air from a shop type compressor as minute droplets of oil in it from the compressor lube, which is not good for the lungs. heres a link to air embolism. be safe, my friend!!
poke here

Slight correction. 33 feet is one atmosphere. Most pools are around 8 feet. According to and online dive computer he could stay down about 2 hrs with no ill effects from nitrogen. He should however be instructed not to try and hold his breath as he ascends as even from 8 feet it could cause damage.

That brought up an interesting question....?

Wouldn't the elevation of the pool(from sea level) also have to come into consideration concerning the limits of inhaling compressed air?

i.e.- 30 feet under water at sea level should be more pressure exerted than 30 feet under water at a pool @ 1000 feet above sea level. IMHO

We use the Breathe-cool system with the full hood for painting. http://www.turbineproducts.com/tyvek-hood-assembly-for-supplied-air-respirator/
They make stick on clear covers that go over the face mask. They need to be replaced every once in a while depending on how much overspray you generate. You should also be wearing a tyvek suit and gloves. You really don't want any exposed skin to the paints. It really was one of the best things we have ever bought for tractor restoration.
