Parts for an old spray gun?

I have an old spray gun and I noticed that I've lost a part from it. It's a copy of the Binks #7 that was sold in the auto parts stores in the seventies for $35. I think Binks parts fit it, but I've never had need to find out, until now. The part I lost is the knurled packing nut that goes around the short shaft that the trigger depresses. I guess this thing came loose some time and slipped off of the shaft to who knows where. Is there a parts supplier that would have this part? Or should I go looking for something more modern? I've looked at the cheapo HVLP guns in the farm stores, but hang them back up because I know nothing about them. Implement painting is all I use it for.

Thanks for any advice.

Can't help with parts, but if it is truly a knock off, then get a manual online and find a part number. Google it and pick it up.

Now I had a binks rep in at work last week, they have a fairly new gun that has a Teflon coating on the outside and inside. They say it is really easy to clean. Might be worth looking at something a little more modern. I know I am going to look at it. It is $400+, but good stuff costs money.

It's possible I have the part you need. I have one the threaded part is 17/32" Od and 7/16" long. As best as I can tell it's 28 threads per inch. It has 7 threads in 1/4". From the treaded part it is 15/32" in diameter and 19/32 long. The diameter hole in the end for the fluid control pin is 7/32".

Astro is correct! This one says Astro AS-7 on the handle. I think that I bought it at the local NAPA store. It seemed to work good, but I've never had another to compare it to. I had a friend who was a bodyman, and he recommended it.

Stephen, this part is tiny - it is not the packing nut that the long needle goes through - it is for the short rod that stubs out against the trigger. I have everything but the knurled female threaded nut. The exposed male portion has three threads visible. I couldn't find a parts diagram for a Binks #7, but item #24 in the link resembles my missing part.

I have that part too. The threaded cap looks like it fits over 11/32" shaft.

That looks like it Stephen. Is that part for sale? I can't figure out how to enable my e-mail.

Just email me your mailing address and you can reimburse me the postage. These are just old guns I should throw away. I don't repair sprayers anymore. If cleaning doesn't fix it, I buy a new gun.
