Cloudy/Hazy Paint Today?

I am painting parts before assembly of Persian Orange 2. Using Nason full base enamel mixed at ORilley's. I have been using this stuff in the past ans it seemed almost impossible to mess up. It has been quite some time and I lost the sheet I had on the paint and the new can did not come with a full label. I called the "paint man" and they said use a 8-4-1/2 mix. That doesn't sound like what I used before.

So today we have a heat advisory. I painted outside in the shade and took the parts inside the pole barn to cure. They cured out to a dull hazy finish. Going to have to re do.

What is your guess on what went wrong?

I hate to switch brands/suppliers since I have at least 175 bucks of the nason stuff on the bench.

How well did you stir the paint? Paint is a mixture of a gloss agent and pigment. Sometimes if paint is not stirred well enough you end up spraying more pigment than gloss and it looks dull. How humid was the weather when you sprayed it? If the humidity was over 70 percent it may have gotten water in the paint making the finish blush. Did you spray a wet coat when you sprayed it? Sometimes if sprayed too dry the paint sets up before the gloss comes to the surface and flows out. It may be you needed more thinner or a slower drying solvent especially if it was hot when you sprayed it. If it's none of these I would think the can of paint you got was defective.

Dave, I think it may be the paint or the mixing ratio they gave you. I painted yellow on the wheels on my h john Deere I am restoring and yellow is supposedly the hardest to do. I started around 7am painting with 85% humidity and got excellent results using the Deere paint. I mixed using a 8-1-1 ratio. Our temps here in Alabama reached high 90s today.

Well i just returned from having a conference with the guy that mixed/sold me the paint.

Wrong kind. It was the type that requires a clear coat.

So it is back into town tomorrow to try to unscrew this mess.

I just may wind up getting a pint of clear coat to finish off the quart of base that I have.

And go who knows where from there.
