glaze to primer

I have finished applying glaze to my fenders and hood of my tractor and worked all my imperfections, and ready to apply what we call 2k hs urethane primer by Finish 1. Once applied ,am I to understand that a light sanding is to occur between coats, and what grit is recommended? Dry sand or wet sand? I am to understand three coats would be sufficient. Thanks in advance .Chuck

Chuck, I was a little taken aback by your post. Though I am no auto body guy, perhaps I can help a little. First, you don't mention how you cleaned before applying glaze. When dealing with rust you need to acid wash before any primer, to kill the tiny particles of rust down in the pits. Next, You apply a good primer like you plan to use, to provide a bond to the metal. Are you sure that the glaze is recommended for bare metal? Your base primer is just a base, two moderate coats, then top coat anything except sheet metal. On sheet metal you want to follow your base primer with "primer surfacer", this is what you sand. It goes on pretty thick to hide small pits and sanding scratches in the body filler and in the metal. While sanding the primer surfacer as you find little imperfections that are too deep for the primer surfacer to fill, you use glaze to spot fill them. You keep re coating with primer surfacer until you are happy with the smoothness. Once you get it as smooth as you want it you are ready for your top coat. Hope this helps.

I suppose I should have been a little clearer. I used OSPHO Initially then sand blasted. Thanks for your thoughts.

When you pick up the paint ask for the application guides. It will state if you sand between coats ,how long to wait between coats ,even what grit to use. Alot of people buy paint on this site and I don't think they are dealing with auto body supply houses or they would know this. Each brand has a guide .
