Planning on cleaning up my 1650 Oliver. This is a work tractor and will be shedded. I am using rattle cans. Any tips appreciated. ie. What do I prime, best surface cleaners, ....
Thanks in advance.

I would brush paint rather than use airasol cans. The material is so diluted it takes several coats to get the minium layer of paint. If you can use it on a couple of future projects,an entry level HVLP kit is a good choice. As far as other solvents, cleaners and primer, choose the paint first then use what is reccomended on can.

You are WAY ahead to buy a $40 gravity feed gun from harbor freight to paint with versus rattle cans.

Rattle can paint is pretty bad. You would be better off with an industrial oil based enamel and brush it. Automotive paint would be the best but you need a sprayer. It doesn't have to be a high dollar sprayer. I painted this tractor including the stenciling with a Harbor Freight #97855 sprayer I got for 21 bucks with a twenty percent off coupon.

Sounds like my rattlecan touch up of my hydraulic housing is turning into full paint job. Friend has offered me HVLP unit to continue. Anyone tried Mills Fleet Farm paint? Tips appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've never used Mills Fleet paint. I went to the Mills Fleet website and it isn't very user friendly. I couldn't find paint. Assuming it was an oil based enamel you have to be careful what color you buy. Any color containing red such as orange through red is very prone to fade using an oil based enamel. Other colors you can get away with it especially a white to gray to black color. If the color is red you would be better off using an automotive paint. It would last for many years where a red oil based enamel will have a noticeable fade in three months if kept outdoors.
