Early farmall paint

I'm painting my farmall, well if I could find where to buy the paint. It's a 1935 farmall f20 and at some time in the last 80 years it's been painted red and I would like to paint it back gray. Some say it's battleship gray some say it's more of a blue then battleship but i dont know and can't seem to found where to buy it and calling the IH dealer was a waste of time after he wanted to argue over the phone that farmalls where never gray. Any help would be appreciated thanks, Zeb.

I went to the International Harvester Collection at the Wisconsin Historical Society's web site. They are the keeper of the farmall history. The IH Paint Committee on 9/4/1924 decided that their tractors are to be painted Tractor Gray. There is no indication what color gray this is. They also determined that the tractor wheels will be Harvester Oxide Red also called Persian Gulf Red. Then on 11/1/1936 they decided that all tractors from this date forward are to painted Harvester Red No. 50 motor truck synthetic enamel with the wheels being Harvester Red color varnish. I became aware of this IH paint history when I was researching the original color of an IH spoke wheel running gear a couple of years ago. You can go to this site and somewhere on it I ran into a display of some IH paint samples but they may be more of a reprint of an advertisement rather than actual paint samples. Go look and see. Maybe you'll find an answer.

Take a look at this paint code to see if it's too dark. Would look good with red wheels. Hal

Go to McCormick-Deering.com, they have the free download of the paint formula. He found an original can of IHC # 1063 paint & had it analyzed & reproduced.
