I have to do a bunch of spot welds but not so many as to go and borrow a spot welder. I have done a few by drilling a hole in the outer piece and filling with my mig welder. I drilled a 1/4 hole but it seemed large. Should a use 3/16 drill?

I would stay with 1/4" for guaranteed penetration and a good strong spot weld. Just space them a little further apart.

Thanks Randy, I posted to you a year or so ago when you posted pics of Morbark grinders, asking if you knew of CBI grinders and chippers.

Guess I must have missed your post. I haven't heard of that brand. Bandit (which is 4 mi from Morbark, same family) Vermeer , Peterson is a big one out North West , There's a couple small ones around Central Mi also. Most were started up by engineers/family etc from Morbark which started out in 1957. My son is still at Morbark but I'm retired from there. Ten yrs of factory life is enough.lol

A friend builds them. he sells them all over the world. Lots in Africa and Australia. A couple years ago I called him and he was in Brazil trying to sell them on planting eucalyptus trees for grinding into biomass.
