Sandblasting

I have a late styled JD B and I want to prepare the hood for priming/finishing. I have a pressure blaster but I'm not sure if it's safe to blast without warping. Any experience blasting one of these and if it's safe from warping?

I have sandblasted things and did not experience any warping of panels. I did keep heat in mind and waited for cool weather and moved the nozzle around to different area just to be safe. Another thing I thought of but didn't try is to spray a water hose on the back side of the panel for cooling while blasting the other side.Note ; I use the Black Beauty which cuts alot faster than sand.

My local sandblaster uses aluminum oxide in house (coal slag on-site). He has blasted many hoods for me with no warping. He said he keeps the nozzle moving and works in different areas to keep the heat down. Had one hood that I couldn't get the decal off and he was able to blast the decal off in the process without any warping.

I'll probably draw some fire for saying this but I think the warping is more from the peening action of the sand than heat. Sheet metal parts hold shape due to stresses put in during the forming. Peening changes those stresses.

I stop and inspect after covering the whole panel or section twice in checkerboard while moving at moderate speed. Depending on how much paint cane off and in what pattern and if panel had rust before starting,I may or may not blast any longer. If panel isn't rusted and no paint comes loose from metal in two passes,I stop blasting. I would rather lay prime on well adheared paint than bare metal anyhow.

Thanks guys. Gonna give it a try after giving it a head start by chemical stripping as much as possible.
