Paint removal question

Hi fellas

I am starting to remove the paint from my tractor. I will be working on the cast pieces to start with. Using assorted brushes on my angle grinder, drill etc most all of it comes off with relative ease but looking at it closely there is still paint in the pores of the cast iron. No brushes can get at it. If it has to to come off chemical removal is the only option that I can think of. So does it have to come off? I will try and attach a photo of the piece I am working on

thanks

John

You don't have to get every bit of paint off it. You mainly want it smooth. You have that piece pretty clean. I would recommend putting a good coat of primer on it before you put the color on. Primer is supposed to help make the paint stick and I'm sure it does, but mostly, it helps prevent you from having fisheye problems with the color. Fisheye is a pain in the butt to get covered.

Sand blasting would remove all the rust and paint. primer is for adhesion between bare metal and topcoat. It has nothing to do with preventing fish eyes. Fish eyes are from a surface contamination, grease or wax.
