HPLV dedicated compressors

Thanks in advance. I have learned a lot from hanging around this forum and I have a question. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to using one of the dedicated HPLV compressor systems to paint compared with a standard compressor system?

It certainly is compact and relatively affordable. I do not have a compressor system currently to use at the CFM volumes I am seeing for the guns and wonder if one of these systems would be good. Either that or I man up and buy a 30+ gal system.

Both are a turbine sprayer. I've never seen anyone have good things to say about them. I would use a compressed air sprayer.

If you're going to do any serious spraying, forget those toy ones. Get a gravity feed HVLP gun that runs on compressed air. I bought the largest portable compressor cambell hausfield made at the time. It's a 220v unit and puts out 8-12 cfm depending on the pressure. You'll also need a water trap in the line if you're going to do much volume to keep the condensation out of your paint. By the way, if you think it might be something you might have to return, avoid HF like the plague. If it's broken they still try to hit up up for a restocking fee even though that's clearly against their published return policy. If you're just not happy with it, you'll certainly have to pay the restocking fee. I think it's 20%.

I agree with posts below and also you will need compressed air for 20 other things in between your painting and those won't do it. Compressed air ranks right up with acetylene torch and welder for must haves. Maybe even at the top. Spend the money and get some air.

"IF" you normally need a large compressor capiable of large cfm,"AND"you rarly paint, that's the best set up. On the other hand you should realize a modest compressor will air up lots of tires and a modest hvlp system will paint several projects before wearing out. Putting wear and tear on a large compressor to feed a little sprayer is like digging sweet taters with a bull dozer. It will certainly do the job,but at extordant expense.

Best,

have nothing but good things to say about my turbine HVLP system. I've had it since 1996 and have painted a house, tractors, cars and trucks with it. The savings in the paint and other materials will pay for itself in two paint jobs.
