Orchard Fenders

Hi! My wife and I were watching an old tractor show on RFD, and they showed some old Case orchard tractors. My wife had never seen orchard tractors before, and so I found some pictures of Oliver orchard tractors, too. Anyway, impulsive that she is, she now thinks I should restore an orchard tractor of some make. Although I've had a Ford 8N for over 20 years, and use it every summer, I don't really know much about old tractors in general. My question is: Is the only thing that differentiates and orchard tractor from the more common farm tractors the rear fender sheet metal?

I think it depends on the brand, but besides the sheet metal they could have different manifolds to exit the exhaust down. Could have a different grill guard, dash, and a shield so the branches don't hit the steering wheel and you face. This is just some to give you an idea.

When you go looking for a orchard tractor try to find one that has most or all the special sheet metal. Not all orchard models came with the special sheet metal. Finding replacement parts is hard and spendy. The upside if you take one to a show you may have the only one. They are a big hit. I enjoy the specialty tractors. I have 4 orchards 2 vineyards & 2 high crops. Enjoy Steve

Some models have different wheels as well. Such as McCormick/IH W4/W6 has spoke type front and O4/O6 have solid. The basics engine/trans/frame are same just anything that could hang up (intake, exhaust, lights) are repositioned down out of the way. Some model orchard tractors don't have the full sweeping shields either just a few small details.

On the Oliver orchards, the seat, steering wheel, pedals, the whole works, sat lower. You sat farther back and straddled more of it.
