Temp in the barn??

As always guys.....thanks in advance for sharing your
expertise!

I will answer a few questions based on my opinion.

I like to paint with urethane and hardener, temperature should be at least 60 and use as slow of reducer as you can.

I like an alcalyd primer, others will say epoxy.

I use a top load paint gun, set pressure according to manual. Paint some test patterns on a piece of cardboard.

Your dads spray may work for you but
do this first. If possible get a rebuild
kit and insure gun is stainless steel.
You will have more problems with the
equipment than any thing else. You can
use almost any type of spray gun if you
can change orffice size and your air
volume is sufficent.

Air pressure , distance from surface and temp will all be covered in the application guide you get from the paint manufacturer. Temp is going to be close to 70 degrees [ reducers are purchased to match temps also.] . I tried to post a picture of two auto refinishing books I got on the web for 1 dollar each. These books are trade shcool books and the paint systems are outdated but the repair info is invaluable. When I buy paint I have the counterman verify the mix ratios and mark the can lids for me.When you read the Application Guide note the drying time between coats. The spray pattern is probably available on the web somewhere [ like youtube]. I was taught to hold the gun sideways and watch for the zone of max atomization -- then that is your distance . This would overrule the app . guide specs as that is what the gun is really doing not some spec . Other than that follow tech sheets to the t. { Abe Books and Albris books is where I ordered the books from.
Note: before you put paint in that gun fill it with thinner and test it out first - once you have gun problems with mixed paint your in trouble.
