Rustoleum HVLP

Usually I use Tractor Supply paint for HVLP painting sheet metal, and I usually use Rustoleum for implements and things that get banged around or has a rough surface. The only tractor item I ever painted with Rustoleum was a Regal Red gas tank a couple years ago for a Ford 601. It was really hot out that day, and I mixed it 2:1 with acetone. It went on very wet, and after three coats, it dried to a very slick medium red. I was surprised at how well it actually looked.

Has anyone here ever painted an entire tractor or other type of vehicle with Rustoleum with good results? The cost is about the same as Magic from TSC, so its not really that much cheaper, I was just wondering?

I'm of the same opinion regarding Rustoleum. It holds up as well as any and better than most equaly priced paint. I would have already painted a tractor if it came in red belly Ford colors. IIRC,their tractor paint only comes in JD green and yellow,Cat yellow,AC orange,Ford blue and IH red.

IMO Rustoleum is better than Valspar and certainly better than what Tractor Supply sells. It is made by Sherwin Williams. Of course there are different grades of paint under most brands. I bought a Big Tex trailer a few years ago that had a sticker on it that said Painted with Valspar. Paint is still soft and faded.

i, Per my Granddaughter's request to paint "her" 871 Ford the brightest yellow I could find I just sprayed it using Rustoleum Safety Yellow. Thinned with acetone, sprayed well, and turned out good. Pete

I painted an IH 350 with Rustoleum IH Red in 1998. What I sprayed from the quart cans looks very good - what I sprayed from the rattle cans has faded quite a bit. This tractor is used for some summer baling and other small projects but probably spends 90-95% of its time inside a shed. The only issue I had was that the paint was SOFT (dent it with a fingernail) for almost a year before it finally baked on for a hard finish.
