Back when TSC stopped carrying valspar I tried the magic paint and was unimpressed.
It was on sale a while back so i got enough to paint my 941D ford this weekend and must say.. I'm now impressed.
for the test i did use their reducer and hardner .. I painted my tin with that.
for doing the cast, since I had enough excess paint out of a gallon I could experement and loose some paint if it went bad without needing to buy more, i tried my mineral spirits and naptha.. worked fine.
i also tried NASON quick cure hardner that they sell for their single stage synthetic enamil. I used this with valspar paint as well.. I liked it better than valspar hardner.. the magic and valspar hardner appear about equal. the nason hardner, IMHO.. is better. faster cure.. i paint on the open.. and flying bugs and diust are a problem long term. I can wet and spray the ground and keep it dust free a couple hours.. but past that it is a gamble. the quick cure hardner is pretty safe in half an hour for stuf to adhere to it.
Looks like Magic has improves their product since i tried it last... good.. because i had avoided it and painted my last tractor with nason.. and spent a bit more... the nason syn enamil likes it's own reducer.. and is not real happy with naptha... I use their medium reducer for the nason SS syn enamil.. decent results too.. but at 2x the price of magic..
