Using HVLP to Spray Wood Stain - NEED HELP

We just built some board and batten shutters for the house (just got repainted) and I would like to apply a sealer and a stain to them. We have 20 shutters and I would like to use my Home Depot HVLP Spray Gun kit that I use on my tractors. The shutters are made out of some cedar that we had cut up from a bandsaw mill years ago.

My question is what do I need to be able to spray them with the HVLP gun? Will that work? Any special nozzle tips required for stain or any other additives needed??

At a body shop where I used to hang around the one son [the painter] sprayed furniture in the booth every night for some company. He used his regular Sata gun.Same equipment. But as they say on the custom painting site the only way to know how things are really going to turn out is spray a test panel. Get some similar wood and do a spray out on it.

Yeah, I was just wondering because I know for a fact that wood stain is alot thinner than tractor/auto paint.

I have one of those HVLP spray guns and it consumes a lot of air, so I don't use it very often. I use my old siphon spray gun made by Devilbiss I bought used 30years ago. Parts are still available. My shutters are vinyl and I sprayed them in 1997 using Sherwin Williams best latex paint. I think it was their Superlatex paint. They still look good and never peeled. Hal

Does the stain have any type of sealer in it. Some sealers will gel if there is too much air flow. We used to have to buy a special sealer when we prefinished trim.
