i have a hood that has some rust holes on the side and wanted to see what would be a good way to repair and get rid of the rust is their anything that i could put on the metal to stop the rust tia

Good rust repair requires the entire panel to be cut out beyond the rust area and a new panel welded in. If you butt or flange it in is the subject of debate also but if you don't remove all the rusted area it is a losing battle for the future.Grind to bare clean metal and start the repair from there.

Many replacement panels are available for cars and a lot of shops now cut the rusty area completely out and then GLUE the new one on. This results in no gaps available for moisture to get in and for rust to hide. I think that if I were you I would cut all the affected area out then get some same gauge steel, cut to fit and glue it over the hole, then fill to blend it in.
